Dayana started modeling in 2001after being one of the finalists in the Elite Model Look International 2001 competition, in Nice, France. She was 15 years old.
In 2006 Mendoza was kidnapped in Venezuela. Her family paid the ransom and she was released.
In 2007 Dayana was crowned Miss Universe Venezuela, and one year later she won the prestigious beauty title of Miss Universe 2008.
In 2008 Mendoza’s nude photos surfaced on the internet but the Miss Universe Organization didn’t penalize Dayana because her pictures were not pornographic, but instead were “artistic in nature, and they don’t have an ounce of pornographic content to them.”
