The Price of Beauty is Often Too High
How far are some women ready to go to achieve the current beauty standards of their culture?
How much time and money do women spend on beauty products and procedures?
Without getting into too many details – women from around the world spend hundreds of billions of dollars on cosmetics, plastic surgeries, countless “beauty” procedures, diet pills and other dieting products.
How many beauty products are there? How many beauty invasive and non-invasive procedures are there? What is that telling you?
From permanent makeup to plastic surgery, to unhealthy dieting and countless hours of exercise, many women are going to extremes to meet the beauty standards of their culture.
Those women that are not the “beauty extremists” spend lots of money and time on makeup, cosmetics, hair products, manicure, pedicure, wonder bras, fake eye lashes, diets, and God knows what else.
Therefore, it would be safe to say that physical beauty is very important to women and that they are prepared to do great many things in order to become or remain beautiful.
But what happens when a woman can’t achieve the very high and practically unrealistic female beauty standards? How does that make her feel?
Self-Esteem and Body Image
Woman’s body image refers to her feelings of the aesthetics and sexual attractiveness of her own body. The way the body image is measured is usually by asking the woman to rate her current and ideal body shape using a series of depictions. The difference between these two values is the measure of body dissatisfaction.
Body dissatisfaction is highly correlated with low self-esteem which in return can cause many other problems such as sexual insecurities or even dysfunction, depression, substance abuse, aggression, promiscuity, all types of addictions including the plastic surgery addiction, eating disorders, and many other types of dysfunctional behaviors and even mental disorders.
Most women that are not happy with the way they look are trying to do as much as they can in order to improve their body image. Unfortunately, many of them remain unhappy with their physical looks no matter what they do to their bodies.
Always remember that true beauty comes from within.
